Steeped in Gold Rush history, Skagway was the gateway to the Yukon Gold Fields.
Begining in the fall of 1897, over 100,000 prospectors arrived by ship from Seattle, to start their ardous
overland trek to Dawson City, located deep in Canada's Yukon Territory.
Today, Skagway maintains numerous historical points of interest which tell the story of
the Yukon Gold Rush; including the Trail of '98 Museum, the Klondike Gold Rush National
Historical Park, the town's Historical District, the Gold Rush Cemetery and the world famous
narrow-gauge White Pass & Yukon Railroad.
The Historic District lies in the center of downtown Skagway. Visitors can walk along the well worn boardwalks lined with many of the town's original western style "false-fronted" buildings.
The Visitors Center is the starting point for several walking and interpretive tours.

Population: 826
